Balıkesir University Faculty of Engineering is a four-year higher education institution providing undergraduate education, formed by the conversion of the Balıkesir State Academy of Engineering and Architecture into a faculty. It was established in 1976 under the Ministry of National Education. Having commenced education in February 1977 with the departments of Civil and Mechanical Engineering, the institution gained autonomous academy status on February 25, 1980. When higher education institutions were subject to new regulations pursuant to the Law on Higher Education, Decree Law No. 41 issued pursuant to this law, and Law No. 2809 regarding the amending and adoption of this decree, the Balıkesir State Academy of Engineering and Architecture was affiliated with Uludağ University under the name "Balıkesir Faculty of Engineering" and continued its education as a faculty starting in the 1982-1983 academic year with the departments of Civil and Mechanical Engineering. Our faculty was incorporated into Balıkesir University, established in Balıkesir, under the name "Faculty of Engineering and Architecture" in accordance with Article 12 of Law No. 3837, adopted on July 3, 1992. The Engineering and Architecture faculties were separated in 2016. Our department began its educational activities in the 2014-2015 academic year and accepted its first students with 31 students based on the 2014 University Entrance Exam (ÖSS) results. The first graduates were born in the 2017-2018 academic year. The Department of Food Engineering continues its research and educational activities in the Faculty of Engineering Annex building on the Çağış Campus of Balıkesir University.
